We were brung up proper

I received the follow via an email.

Certainly were the best years of my life. Oh, how our lives have changed (jumpers for goalposts, cardboard in our shoes, hand-me-downs, snotty sleeves, etc.).

“And we never had a whole Mars bar until 1993”!!!

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL MY FRIENDS WHO WERE BORN IN THE 1940’s, 50’s, 60’s and 70’s (not to forget 1930’s)

  • First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank sherry while they carried us and lived in houses made of asbestos.
  • They took aspirin, ate blue cheese, bread and dripping, raw egg products, loads of bacon and processed meat, tuna from a can, and didn’t get tested for diabetes or cervical cancer.
  • Then after that trauma, our baby cots were covered with bright coloured lead-based paints.
  • We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets or shoes, not to mention, the risks we took hitch-hiking.
  • As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or air bags.
  • We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle.
  • Take away food was limited to fish and chips, no pizza shops, McDonalds , KFC, Subway or Nandos.
  • Even though all the shops closed at 6.00pm and didn’t open on a Sunday, somehow we didn’t starve to death!
  • We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this.
  • We could collect old drink bottles and cash them in at the corner store and buy Toffees, Gob-stoppers and Bubble Gum.
  • We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter, milk from the cow, and drank soft drinks with sugar in it, but we weren’t overweight because……
  • We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the street lights came on.
  • No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O..K.
  • We would spend hours building our go-carts out of old prams and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. We built tree houses and dens and played in river beds with matchbox cars.
  • We did not have Playstations, Nintendo Wii , X-boxes, no video games at all, no 999 channels on SKY ,
  • no video/dvd films, or colour TV
  • no mobile phones, no personal computers, no Internet or Internet chat rooms……….WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!
  • We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no Lawsuits from these accidents.
  • Only girls had pierced ears!
  • We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.
  • You could only buy Easter Eggs and Hot Cross Buns at Easter time….
  • We were given air guns and catapults for our 10th birthdays,
  • We rode bikes or walked to a friend’s house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just yelled for them!
  • Mum didn’t have to go to work to help dad make ends meet because we didn’t need to keep up with the Jones’s!
  • Not everyone made the rugby/football/cricket/netball team. Those who didn’t had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!! Getting into the team was based on MERIT
  • Our teachers used to hit us with canes and gym shoes and throw the blackboard rubber at us if they thought we weren’t concentrating …
  • We can string sentences together and spell and have proper conversations because of a good, solid three R’s education.
  • Our parents would tell us to ask a stranger to help us cross the road.
  • The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of.
  • They actually sided with the law!
  • Our parents didn’t invent stupid names for their kids like ‘Kiora’ and ‘Blade’ and ‘Ridge’ and ‘Vanilla’
  • We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL !

And YOU are one of them!

You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated our lives for our own good.

And while you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave their parents were.

PS -The big type is because your eyes are not too good at your age anymore.

Darren Deojee: 2012 control, manipulation, spells… or freedom?

Darren Deojee, of the Peoples Public Trust, speaking to a WeAreChange Manchester meeting on the 17th of January 2012.

2012 control, manipulation, spells… or freedom? Darren questions the perceptions of what 2012 really means. From activism to spirals of control – from spells created from words to World War Three, Darren takes us on a journey that few have the perception to see or understand fully…and that’s the way the Manipulators like it…

Support our troops

It’s worth thinking about.

Morale’s low in The Forces. We’re almost defenceless against foreign threats. Senior figures are critical of policies. We’ll need them to support us from the DOMESTIC THREATS – i.e. the governmonster.

“Thank You” from the 1%

So, so true. This IS the way it is. Read and weep.

Emphasis in red are mine.

A note of appreciation from The Rich

Let’s be honest: you’ll never win the lottery.

On the other hand, the chances are pretty good that you’ll slave away at some miserable job the rest of your life. That’s because you were in all likelihood born into the wrong social class. Let’s face it — you’re a member of the working caste. Sorry!

As a result, you don’t have the education, upbringing, connections, manners, appearance, and good taste to ever become one of us. In fact, you’d probably need a book the size of the yellow pages to list all the unfair advantages we have over you. That’s why we’re so relieved to know that you still continue to believe all those silly fairy tales about “justice” and “equal opportunity” in America.

Of course, in a hierarchical social system like ours, there’s never been much room at the top to begin with. Besides, it’s already occupied by us — and we like it up here so much that we intend to keep it that way. But at least there’s usually someone lower in the social hierarchy you can feel superior to and kick in the teeth once in a while. Even a lowly dishwasher can easily find some poor slob further down in the pecking order to sneer and spit at. So be thankful for migrant workers, prostitutes, and homeless street people.

Always remember that if everyone like you were economically secure and socially privileged like us, there would be no one left to fill all those boring, dangerous, low-paid jobs in our economy. And no one to fight our wars for us, or blindly follow orders in our totalitarian corporate institutions. And certainly no one to meekly go to their grave without having lived a full and creative life. So please, keep up the good work!

You also probably don’t have the same greedy, compulsive drive to possess wealth, power, and prestige that we have. And even though you may sincerely want to change the way you live, you’re also afraid of the very change you desire, thus keeping you and others like you in a nervous state of limbo. So you go through life mechanically playing your assigned social role, terrified what others would think should you ever dare to “break out of the mold.”

Naturally, we try to play you off against each other whenever it suits our purposes: high-waged workers against low-waged, unionized against non-unionized, Black against White, male against female, American workers against Japanese against Mexican against…. We continually push your wages down by invoking “foreign competition,” “the law of supply and demand,” “national security,” or “the bloated federal deficit.” We throw you on the unemployed scrap heap if you step out of line or jeopardize our profits. And to give you an occasional break from the monotony of our daily economic blackmail, we allow you to participate in our stage-managed electoral shell games, better known to you ordinary folks as “elections.” Happily, you haven’t a clue as to what’s really happening — instead, you blame “Aliens,” “Tree-hugging Environmentalists,” “Niggers,” “Jews,” Welfare Queens,” and countless others for your troubled situation.

We’re also very pleased that many of you still embrace the “work ethic,” even though most jobs in our economy degrade the environment, undermine your physical and emotional health, and basically suck your one and only life right out of you. We obviously don’t know much about work, but we’re sure glad you do!

Of course, life could be different. Society could be intelligently organized to meet the real needs of the general population. You and others like you could collectively fight to free yourselves from our domination. But you don’t know that. In fact, you can’t even imagine that another way of life is possible. And that’s probably the greatest, most significant achievement of our system — robbing you of your imagination, your creativity, your ability to think and act for yourself.

So we’d truly like to thank you from the bottom of our heartless hearts. Your loyal sacrifice makes possible our corrupt luxury; your work makes our system work. Thanks so much for “knowing your place” — without even knowing it! “

Cover-up at St Paul’s

Clerics suppress report on bankers’ greed to save church embarrassment

A highly critical report into the moral standards of bankers has been suppressed by St Paul’s Cathedral amid fears that it would inflame tensions over the Occupy London tent protest.

The report, based on a survey of 500 City workers who were asked whether they thought they were worth their lucrative salaries and bonuses, was due to be published last Thursday, the day that the Canon Chancellor of St Paul’s, Giles Fraser, resigned in protest at the church’s tough stance.

But publication of the report, by the St Paul’s Institute, has been delayed in an apparent acknowledgement that it would leave the impression that the cathedral was on the side of the protesters. “

Cameron: EU Referendum Lies

When are we going to learn NOT to elect serial liars?

IF YOU ARE GOING TO VOTE, only vote are an independent candidate!

David Cameron: We need a referendum now

“He demanded it right up to the time he moved into No 10. A couple of slaps from the true wielders of power, and he changed his tune.

He is a liar.

Liar! Liar! Liar!

You may want to chant that on Monday 24th October.

You may want to remind his spineless fellow party members just who they report to.

You may want to voice your disgust, your contempt, and your outrage.

You may want to shame him into keeping his promise.

Details on how you can do ALL of that are below.

“The vote in Parliament on a European Union referendum was scheduled to happen next Thursday 27th October. However the government has now switched the date of the vote to this Monday 24th October after ministers were worried about the huge number of people the People’s Pledge would be able to mobilise to lobby Parliament. This is an outrageous attempt to stifle debate and peaceful protest. Not only does the government not want to have a referendum on the EU, but they want to shut down the debate altogether.

We need you to contact your MP again. MPs from all parties are being pressured by their whips to toe the party line and oppose a referendum. They need your support to combat party pressure and must hear from you in the next 48 hours. Please act now.

What you can do.

STEP 1: Ring your MP

Call your MP on 0207 219 3000 – This is the House of Commons switchboard. Please ask to speak to your MP about the EU referendum vote. Tell your MP that you have signed the People’s Pledge and that you want them to vote in favour of an EU referendum.  Inform them that, through the People’s Pledge website, you will watch how they have voted and will take this into account at the next general election.

STEP 2: Email your MP

Even if you have already done so, do it again.
Tell them how annoyed you are that the day of the vote has now changed and that the parties are forcing their MPs to vote against the EU referendum that polls show a majority of people want. Remember you must give your name and address so that your MP can respond. Please forward to us any responses that you get.

Contact your MP here

STEP 3 : Join us in lobbying Parliament on the new date Monday 24th October.

The People’s Pledge are holding an official lobby of Parliament on the 24th of Octoberand we would like you to attend. We have secured permission to hold a group lobby of MPs in person before the vote in Parliament. To do this you must arrive at 2pm at St Stephen’s Entrance where supporters will start to queue to lobby their MPs.

The next 4 days are vital and we need as many of you to get involved as possible. To generate maximum pressure on MPs don’t just complete one of these steps; please do all three, and forward this email as widely as possible.

The People’s Pledge Team”

Re-blogged from here with the greatest of pleasure.

CR. “

“It’s your dirty mind”

JAKARTA (Reuters) – Scores of women and children wearing colourful miniskirts and tight leggings gathered in central Jakarta on Sunday, outraged by a public official’s comments that provocatively dressed women are to blame for sexual assaults.

The protest was in response to remarks by the Indonesian capital city’s governor Fauzi Bowo, who said on Friday that women must not wear revealing clothes to avoid being raped or victimised.

He quickly apologised, but his comments were publicised widely via local media and Twitter.

The rally called on police and the Indonesian government to do more to protect women and help the victims of sexual assault.

Women carried placards saying “Don’t tell us how to dress, tell them not to rape,” and “My body is not porn, instead it’s your dirty mind.”

“Public officials should remain silent rather than making discriminatory statements against women. They are supposed to be sensitive and it is their job to find real solution to violence against women,” said Tunggal Prawestu, a spokeswoman for the event organisers.

Earlier this month a woman was gang-raped in a minivan, a widely used type of public transport, late at night. According to data from Indonesia’s National Commission for Women’s Affairs, there have been more than 100,000 cases of violence against women so far this year, of which almost 4 percent were rape cases.

This year, cities around the world have seen ‘SlutWalk’ rallies, mainly-female protests against sexual violence.

While most Indonesians practice a moderate form of Islam, fundamentalists have been pushing hard to impose stricter Islamic laws. In 2008, an anti-pornography law was passed to ban public displays of nudity and “behaviour that could incite lust.”

Your children are too fat, so you will never see them again

Four obese children are on the brink of being permanently removed from their family by social workers after their parents failed to bring their weight under control.

In the first case of its kind, their mother and father now face what they call the ‘unbearable’ likelihood of never seeing them again.

Their three daughters, aged 11, seven and one, and five-year-old son, will either be ‘fostered without contact’ or adopted.

Either way, the family’s only hope of being reunited will be if the children attempt to track down their parents when they become adults.

Dundee City Council said: ‘The council always acts in the best interests of children, with their welfare and safety in mind.’
